Year 11 pupils at Hawarden High School are celebrating today following the publication of their GCSE results, with success across the curriculum and a number of exceptional individual performances.

More than three quarters of pupils achieved at least five qualifications at grades A*-C or equivalent, while a quarter achieved five or more grades at the highest A*/A classification.

The results also demonstrate considerable strength across a broad range of subjects. Every pupil entered for Biology, Chemistry and Physics achieved grades A*-C. Strong performances were also recorded in Business, Design & Technology, Digital Technology, Drama, Engineering and Religious Studies.

Mr Simon Budgen, Headteacher, said:

“We are enormously proud of our Year 11 pupils and the results they have achieved. There are some truly exceptional individual performances this year, including a number of pupils achieving ten or more A*/A grades, but what is equally pleasing is to see success across the whole cohort and pupils gaining the qualifications they need to take their next steps with confidence.

“Results day is the culmination of a great deal of work over a number of years. Our pupils deserve great credit for the commitment they have shown, and I would also like to thank our staff for everything they have done to teach, encourage and support them, together with parents and carers for the support they have provided throughout their children’s time at the school.”

“Today is ultimately about the young people themselves. We hope they take time to enjoy what they have achieved and to recognise how far they have come. We are delighted that so many will be continuing with us in our Sixth Form in September, and we wish every member of the year group the very best wherever their next step takes them.”

Notable successes:

Lucy Davies – 7A*, 4A

Isla Fordwhalley – 7A*, 4A

Isabella Inglis – 7A*, 4A

Following the publication of Post-16 results for 2026, Hawarden High School, is delighted to report another excellent year of achievement in A-level and AS-level . Over 40% of all A-level grades awarded were at A, A or B*, with a number of students achieving exceptional individual results across a wide range of subjects. Students are now progressing to universities, degree apprenticeships, employment and other exciting destinations across the UK.

Commenting on this year’s outcomes, Mr. Boyd, Deputy Headteacher, said:
“Results day is always an important moment for our students and it has been particularly pleasing this morning to see so many of them able to celebrate the outcome of two years of hard work.”

Their destinations reflect a wide range of ambitions and talents, from university and degree apprenticeships to employment and further training.”

“We are immensely proud of them and grateful, too, to the staff and families who have supported them throughout their Sixth Form journey.”

Mrs. Izzi Birch, Assistant Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form, added:
“It has been a privilege to work with this year’s cohort throughout their Sixth Form journey. We are extremely pleased to see their hard work rewarded and, most importantly, to see students progressing to such a wide variety of exciting next steps. We are very proud of them and look forward to hearing about everything they go on to achieve.”

The school also wishes to recognise the following noteworthy individual successes:

Watch Tim Iaith’s new video encouraging everyone to use Welsh with confidence, while celebrating the diversity of voices in our community.

Mae Tîm Iaith yn falch o hyrwyddo’r Gymraeg yn ein hysgol! Gwyliwch ein fideo newydd sy’n annog pawb i ddefnyddio’r Gymraeg gyda hyder, wrth ddathlu amrywiaeth ein cymuned.

As members of Tîm Iaith, we enjoy meeting regularly to share ideas and plan creative ways to promote the Welsh language across our school. We believe it is important that Welsh is spoken and celebrated as part of our daily school life.

To support this, we created this video to encourage everyone — staff and students alike — to use Welsh with confidence. While the video also reflects the wide range of languages spoken in our school community, its central aim is to show how Welsh can stand proudly alongside them and be part of everyday life.
